All the things non-lawyers, particularly businessmen, have been wanting to know about bouncing checks and BP 22 will be answered in a new book entitled "The Layman's Handy Guide to Bouncing Checks" now available in local bookstores.
Stripped of legalese, the simple, easy-to-understand guidebook discusses among others the nuances and intricacies of Batas Pambansa Bilang 22 or the Bouncing Checks Law".
Among the topics covered by the book is "What is a check?"; "Crime and check"; "Specific criminal acts under BP 22"; "Remedies of the complainant in case of acquittal"; "Remedies of the accused in case of conviction"; "Here comes the police: arrest and bail" and many other pointers and information designed to help ordinary people with no law background to save a lot of time and money on litigation.
The "Layman's Handy Guide to Bouncing Checks" was written by Atty. Mark M. Averilla, a young member of the Philippine bar and a practising lawyer specializing in corporate litigation and special projects. He graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Law and was a member of the Philippine Law Journal (PLJ) Editorial Board. As a former college lecturer, Atty. Averilla taught Negotiable Instruments Law and Constitutional Law. Presently, he is the managing partner of the Averilla Salazar Defensor & Enrile (SEDALAW) Offices (www.sedalaw.com).
According to Averilla, the reader-friendly book is a must for all business establishments and businessmen who depend primarily on checks in conducting their businesses. It is also a must for all law school and national libraries in the country. The foreword of the book was written by Integrated Bar of the Philipines (IBP) national president, Atty. Jose Anselmo I. Cadiz.
The book was also hailed by Senator Manuel B. Villar as a true-blue handy guide to BP 22 which will enable entrepreneurs to say goodbye to "vexatious and resource-depleting BP 22 litigations".
With thousands of bouncing check-related cases clogging our courts nationwide, making this book to the public is indeed very timely and should be a welcome development to all businessmen and ordinary people in the country. The "Layman's Handy Guide to Bouncing Checks" is available at all National Bookstores and Powerbooks Specialty Bookstore nationwide.
